Contact lenses are a great addition to spectacles. There are always going to be times when glasses just get in the way and for those times contact lenses are a great alternative. Here at The Eye Zone, we carry out a thorough examination to check your suitability for contact lenses and manage any underlying issues such as dry eyes before we proceed. For new or lapsed wearers, we take time to teach you how to insert and remove the lenses and make sure you are comfortable with this. A contact lens consultation also includes a free trial of the contact lenses so you can experience them first hand and we can make sure that we have selected the best contact lenses for your lifestyle and eye health requirements. There are many different options available in the market and as an independent optician, we aren’t restricted to any one brand enabling us to make the best selection for you.
Daily Disposable Lenses
These are single use lenses and are a very convenient way to wear contact lenses as no cleaning is required. They are also great for occasional wearers and have a lower risk of infection. Those environmentalist among us, don’t worry, we can now recycle these for lower environmental impact.
Fortnightly & Monthly Lenses
These are a cost-effective way of wearing contact lenses full time. They do require cleaning but this is quite simple to do. Certain prescriptions are only available as reusable lenses.
Lenses for Astigmatism (Toric)
Toric contact lenses have come a long way in the last few years and are available in both daily disposables and reusable contact lenses. Even with high levels of astigmatism, we can now offer you the choice of contact lenses.
They say 50 is the new 30. Just because you need an additional correction for reading or screen work, it doesn’t mean you can’t have contact lenses. There are many different options available for those of us who need spectacles for near tasks and there are also lenses that correct near sight coupled with astigmatism. Here at The Eye Zone, we will take the time to try out different options to find the right one for you.
We are accredited to fit Misight daily contact lenses for myopia management. Please see the Myopia Management page for further information on these ground breaking lenses.
Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP)
Although not as popular as a fitting choice anymore, we still have patients who wear these lenses and welcome new wearers or existing patients to our practice for their aftercares.
We can cater for a wide range of prescriptions including complex ones and are more than happy to see patients who may have been unsuccessful with contact lenses in the past.
Our assessment fee is currently £50 and this will include an initial consultation, trial lenses, a number of insertion and removal technique sessions and initial follow up. You may choose to join our direct debit scheme or purchase lenses as and when. If you are an existing contact lens wearer, we would also be happy to see you for your contact lens check-ups. We charge £35 for existing contact lens wearers who require a contact lens check-up. (If you are on our direct debit scheme then the appointment is complimentary)
To book for a contact lens consultation or to find out more details, please call us and one of our friendly team members will be delighted to answer your questions, alternatively contact us.
(Please note that in order to have a contact lens assessment or check up, you must also have a valid general eye test prescription. If this is out of date, we can arrange for you to have this done at our standard charges).
Please also note we are regulated by the General Optical Council and like any optician practice in the UK, we will not be able to supply you with contact lenses should your contact lens specification be out of date or invalid. If you are not our patient but wish to purchase contact lenses from us, we will need a valid copy of your last eye test prescription and last contact lens check-up specification. Please feel free to call us if you would like some more information.
