"Eye exams you'll genuinely enjoy!"
We understand that our eyes are invaluable and deserve the highest level of care. With our independent approach to eye exams, state-of-the-art hospital-grade equipment, and gold standard service, you can feel confident that you’re in expert hands.
We believe that a simple eye test is just not enough in this day and age. With the rapid advance of digital technology and changes in the way we work and socialise, our private ultimate eye exam offers a 45 to 60 minute relaxed consultation using hospital grade equipment. Our in depth exams allow us to check if your vision has changed and by using our specialist equipment, which can also detect eye conditions or potential risk factors much earlier than standard imaging techniques. We like to keep a close check on your eyes to ensure you receive the best care in this modern yet demanding world.
Following your examination, we will explain our findings and tailor our recommendations specifically for you. A qualified professional member of the team will be with you every step of the way. All parts of your eye check will be carried out by a qualified professional.
What to expect during your eye exam
During your eye exam you will have the opportunity to thoroughly discuss any issues you may be having with your eyes, any family ocular and general history, how you are with your vision and with your current prescription. Our professional Optometrists will spend time to go over those concerns and give you specific advice to address them.
We don’t do fast eye exams. We don’t believe that it gives either of us the best outcome. We allocate 45-60 minutes for all our adult eye exams and this gives us both plenty of time to address your symptoms or concerns whether these are eye health or vision and glasses related. Time is dedicated to discuss our findings so that our recommendations can be tailored to your specific needs.
All elements of your journey with us are undertaken by fully qualified members of the team.
The Ultimate Eye Exam
As well as the above, our Ultimate Eye Exam fee also includes all relevant tests that may be needed.
The ultrawide 200 degree Optomap imager provides us with exceptional views of the retinal surface meaning we can see much further out in one image than a traditional retinal camera can.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans will also be taken. These provide us with a layered slice of the retinal surface, a bit like looking at the layers of a cake.
Both imaging techniques provide us with a lot of information that can help us spot signs of eye conditions and disease much earlier than ever before.
Other tests will include a visual fields examination and also an eye pressure check using using non-puff methods, thus providing us with a more accurate reading.
Children’s Eyecare and Myopia Management
Children don’t always know when they are struggling with their vision so it’s a good idea to have regular eye check ups. We do recommend some of our scans which again allow us to have a much more detailed look at their eyes.
Some children can become myopic (short sighted) and this is becoming more prevalent in our younger population. The exact reasons remain unknown but there have long been theories such as excessive exposure to near objects, lack of natural light, family history and ethnicity to name just a few.
A myopic eye is generally larger in size, which in its simplest form means the tissue layers on the retina can become more stretched. This increases the risk factors for retinal detachments, tears, holes or degenerative eye disease to name just a few.
Many years of research has confirmed that elongated eyeballs are at more risk and so new lenses and contact lenses have been introduced to try and reduce the speed at which myopia is increasing.
Most methods have demonstrated a remarkable 60% reduction in the rate of increase, which is impressive. These treatment approaches are intended to be worn during all waking hours and encourage more time spent outdoors in natural sunlight. It’s crucial to manage this process safely and systematically. Regular check-ups and ongoing communication are essential to ensure your child receives the best care and the latest lens designs.
We offer two types of myopia management here:
- Spectacle Lenses – there are now a few different lens manufacturers who offer myopia management spectacle lenses. Both have very high success rates and we are lucky at The Eye Zone to be able to offer two of these. All have shown success rates between 45-67% which is really optimistic.
- Contact Lenses – there are a number of options now available in the daily disposable and reusable modes of wear.
Contact Lenses
Contact Lenses provide a great alternative to glasses for occasional use. There are many different lens designs and modalities available. If you think contact lenses are for you, then request an appointment for a contact lens consultation. Contact lens fitting and follow ups take time and sometimes multiple appointments and this is reflected in our fee.
Please also note we are regulated by the General Optical Council and like any optician practice in the UK, we will not be able to supply you with contact lenses should your contact lens specification be out of date or invalid. If you are not our patient but wish to purchase contact lenses from us, we will need a valid copy of your last eye test prescription and last contact lens check-up specification. Please feel free to call us if you would like some more information.
